An Endorsement of Janice Morrison for Re-Election as Mayor of Nelson
To the Residents of Nelson,
I am very pleased to offer my wholehearted endorsement of Janice Morrison for re-election as Mayor of the City of Nelson.
I have had the privilege of working alongside Janice on the Board of the Health Sciences Association for ten years. A decade of working together gives you a pretty good sense of a person’s character: how they listen, how they handle difficult situations, how they treat others, and what kind of leader they are when the decisions aren’t easy. Over those ten years, Janice has earned my deepest respect and admiration.
Janice is an exceptional leader. She brings intelligence, thoughtfulness, and sound judgment to every challenge, but what has always stood out to me most is the way she leads. She listens carefully. She welcomes different perspectives. She asks the important questions. And when it is time to make a difficult decision, she has the courage to step forward and take responsibility.
Her years of governance experience with the Health Sciences Association gave me a front-row seat to her abilities as a leader and governor. I saw her work through complex issues, balance competing interests, and keep the bigger picture in focus. She understands that good governance is about more than making decisions; it is about listening, building trust, being accountable, and always considering the long-term interests of the people and organization you are there to serve.
Janice is also a wonderful mentor. She is generous with her knowledge and experience and genuinely wants to see others succeed. She has a remarkable ability to encourage people, build their confidence, and help them find their own voice. She leads without needing to be the loudest person in the room, and she makes those around her better. That is a quality I have personally appreciated and benefitted from throughout the years we have worked together.
Having now served as Mayor of Nelson, Janice has also demonstrated that these leadership qualities translate into meaningful public service. She understands the responsibilities that come with the office and the importance of representing a community with integrity, respect, and a willingness to listen. Her experience at both the governance table and in municipal leadership gives her a depth of perspective that is invaluable.
What I admire most about Janice is that her leadership is grounded in who she is as a person. She is thoughtful, principled, compassionate, and committed. She cares about people. She cares about her community. And she understands that leadership is ultimately about service, not about the position itself.
After decades of knowing Janice and having the opportunity to work closely with her, I have tremendous confidence in her continued leadership of Nelson. I know the person behind the title of Mayor, and I know the values, experience, and commitment she brings to the role.
Nelson is fortunate to have Janice Morrison as its mayor, and I am proud to support her re-election. I encourage the residents of Nelson to put their trust in Janice and give her the opportunity to continue the work she has begun on behalf of the wonderful community of Nelson.
With my warmest regards,
Mandi Ayers

To the Residents of Nelson,
I have had the opportunity to work alongside Janice Morrison for the last eight years in local government, and many years prior to that at Kootenay Lake Hospital, and I can say that she is always following the best path for the citizens of Nelson. When Janice is going through the process of considering how a service or program will affect Nelson residents, she always looks for the greater good for the majority of people. The council table is a difficult-decision table; I have seen first hand how she asks the hard questions even when they are uncomfortable questions. Nelson residents are truly blessed to have her as their leader.

I have known Janice and her partner Mike my entire life but really got to know her when we served together on Nelson City Council, where she became a mentor and friend. As MLA I have appreciated Janice’s approach to the role of Mayor. She is a very hard worker with an open mind, collaborative spirit and an unwavering dedication to the residents of Nelson.

I had the pleasure and privilege of serving with Mayor Morrison on the Nelson Police Board. Mayor Morrison is a hard working, critical thinker with integrity. I respect her leadership; not ego-driven or flashy, but the roll up her sleeves, pragmatic, get to work kind.

I am proud to endorse Janice Morrison for re-election as Mayor of Nelson.
As an Early Childhood Educator and college instructor of future Early Childhood Educators, I am proud to support Janice, a leader who recognizes that investing in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is an investment in children, families, educators, and the future of our communities.
My work in ECE and Child and Youth Care has reinforced in me the importance of strong community leadership that recognizes and responds to the needs of children and families. Janice understands that high-quality, accessible ECE is essential, not only for children and families, but for healthy, inclusive, and thriving communities. She appreciates the challenges facing the sector, the importance of valuing and supporting Early Childhood Educators, and the need for continued investment in the services that children and families depend on. She has consistently been willing to bring these issues forward, amplify the voices of educators, and advocate with decision-makers for meaningful change. Janice understands, she listens, she is willing to speak up and to do the work. Her advocacy is grounded in the knowledge that strong communities require strong supports for children and families.
I am very pleased to endorse Janice Morrison for Mayor of Nelson.

I sought out Mayor Janice in my quest through Nelsons, honouring my husband of 34 years, also named Nelson, who died 4 years earlier. She offered to drive me around town in her car that went well beyond the hour to show off her city, its history and its challenges, then invited me to walk with her in the Pride parade, THEN turned out for a celebratory photo of those who’d made an impact on my time in Nelson. Janice’s exceptional generosity is proof she wants neighbours and visitors alike to love the place as she does, and is proud and protective about what makes it special.
